
Foundation Course
Our 10-week Introduction to Judo Foundation Course takes you from complete novice to yellow‐belt ready through a structured, progressive curriculum. Training twice weekly (with the option to attend one or both sessions) you’ll build core throwing, groundwork, and breakfall skills in a supportive group setting. Each lesson reinforces prior techniques, pairs technical instruction with conditioning drills, and gradually increases in complexity. The program culminates in a formal yellow‐belt grading—complete with your own judogi and belt—ensuring you leave confident in the fundamentals of judo, ready to join our regular classes or continue your judo journey.

To simplify for everyone we don't like cash.
We don't lock you in. However, we do require 30 days notice for any cancellations.
In addition to your dedicated beginner sessions, you’re welcome to attend our Monday & Wednesday adult classes at no extra cost.
If you’re unable to attend one of your booked Tuesday or Thursday sessions, each class includes built-in weekly revision of prior techniques. egular attendance is encouraged to ensure you meet grading requirements.
Yes—new students may enrol up until the end of Week 3 (Thursday, 7 August 2025). After that date, the curriculum will have progressed beyond the introductory phase, and late joiners may struggle to catch up. If Week 3 has passed, please wait for the next Term 4 intake starting in October.
In addition to completing the 10 foundation classes, you must be a financial member of Judo WA. The annual Judo WA membership fee is $135.
Don’t worry—your complimentary grading opportunity carries over to the next general club grading (usually held every 3-4 months). You’ll receive feedback on areas to improve and can re-sit when you feel ready, without any extra grading fee.
Beyond Saturday open-mat catch-up sessions, all core techniques are demonstrated and drilled each week. You can also review drills and terminology in your SouthWest training diary. Our coaches are available for one-on-one guidance during open-mat hours.
Anyone aged 15 years or older, regardless of prior martial-arts or judo experience. Just bring comfortable activewear for Week 1—your judogi will be provided (or you may supply your own).
