SouthWest Athletes in Action at the 2026 Canberra International Open

  • Written by Jacob Read
  • on 15 February 2026

SouthWest Judo Academy is proud to recognise the efforts of two of our coaches and athletes, Jacob Read and Olivia Knights, at the 2026 Canberra International Open, held from 13–15 February 2026 in Goulburn, NSW. Representing Team WA, Jacob managed to win the silver medal in the Senior Men’s -60 kg division. Unfortunately, Olivia was unable to podium in a very strong Junior Women’s -57 kg division and Senior Women’s -57 kg division.

With the Canberra International Open complete, both athletes will now stay on for the Randori Camp from 16–18 February at the Australian Institute of Sport before backing up again at the 2026 Sydney International Open the following weekend. These back-to-back training and competition opportunities are a major part of building competition readiness and accelerating athlete development through high-quality match exposure.
