SouthWest Athletes Sharpen Up at National Randori Camp Ahead of Sydney International Open

  • Written by Jacob Read
  • on 19 February 2026

Following the 2026 Canberra International Open, SouthWest Judo Academy’s Jacob Read and Olivia Knights were proud to represent both the club and Western Australia at the 2026 National Randori Camp, held from 16–18 February at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Hosted by Judo Australia, the camp brought together athletes from across the country for an intense block of training designed to lift competition readiness and provide valuable exposure to new styles, strong training partners, and national-level coaching. Jacob and Olivia joined 14 fellow WA athletes for the three-day program, creating a strong Team WA presence on the mat and a great environment for pushing the pace and sharpening skills.

The camp was led by an experienced national coaching team — Emilien Freund, Ivica Pavlinic, Kerrye Katz, and Rob Katz — who guided sessions focused on high-intensity drilling, technical refinement, and challenging randori. For Jacob and Olivia, it was the ideal opportunity to continue building momentum after Canberra, test themselves against fresh opposition, and fine-tune key areas under elite coaching supervision.

With the hard work done at camp, attention now turns to the next stop on the National Event Series calendar — the 2026 Sydney International Open this weekend. SouthWest is proud to see Jacob and Olivia stepping onto the national stage once again, representing the club with confidence and professionalism.

We wish both athletes the best of luck this weekend and congratulate all WA athletes who committed to the camp and continue to raise the standard of judo in Western Australia.
