SouthWest Members Shine at the 2025 Canberra International Open

  • Written by Jacob Read
  • on 24 February 2025

This past weekend, SouthWest Judo Academy was proudly represented at the 2025 Canberra International Open, a key event in the Judo Australia National Event Series. Two of our talented judoka, Sensei Jacob and Olivia Knights, stepped onto the mats in a highly competitive field on Saturday, 22 February, delivering impressive performances.

Jacob put on a strong display in the Senior Men Under 66kg division, battling his way to a well-earned bronze medal. Meanwhile, Olivia Knights showed remarkable perseverance in her two divisions. She narrowly missed out on the podium in the Junior Women Under 57kg division, but bounced back with a determined performance to claim bronze in the Senior Women Under 57kg division.

With the Canberra International Open behind them, Jacob and Olivia now turn their focus to Judo Australia’s four-day National Randori Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

After the Randori Camp, Jacob and Olivia will reunite with more members from SouthWest Judo Academy to compete in the 2025 Sydney International Open on Saturday, 1 March.

Congratulations to Jacob and Olivia for their fantastic performances in Canberra!
