Olympian Nathan Katz Visits SouthWest Judo Academy

  • Written by Jacob Read
  • on 8 May 2025

On Wednesday evening, 7 May, SouthWest Judo Academy was proud to welcome Nathan Katz to the dojo for a special senior training session as part of his visit to Western Australia.

Nathan is one of Australia’s most accomplished judoka — a two-time Olympian (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020) and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist (Birmingham 2022). He now serves as Judo Australia’s Regional Pathways Development Coach for WA, NSW, ACT, and TAS, supporting the development of athletes and coaches across the country.

His visit to WA this week included stops at several clubs, with SouthWest Judo Academy fortunate to host him mid-week. The session brought together a strong group of our most competitive athletes, with additional judoka from surrounding clubs joining the mats for the occasion.

Nathan shared valuable technical insights and brought an elite-level intensity and focus to the session — inspiring many of our aspiring athletes who are looking to progress through the national performance pathway. His experience and perspective at the top levels of international judo offered a unique learning opportunity for all involved.
