SouthWest Members Participate in 2025 WA Futures Camp

  • Written by Jacob Read
  • on 24 November 2025

SouthWest Judo Academy was proudly represented at the 2025 WA Futures Camp, with three athletes and several key contributors playing an important role in the success of the weekend.

Athletes James Taylor, Kayla Nae, and Nate Stevens were among the young judoka selected to take part in the three-day camp, held from 21–23 November. Each athlete embraced the opportunity to train in a high-performance environment, engaging fully in technical sessions, conditioning work, and team-building activities alongside peers from across Western Australia.

The camp was organised and delivered under the leadership of Jacob Read, CEO of Judo Western Australia, who continues to drive the Futures Camp as a key development initiative within the state’s athlete pathway. His vision and coordination ensure the camp remains a valuable experience that balances skill development, education, and enjoyment.

SouthWest Judo Academy was also pleased to see Cody Robinson contribute to the delivery of the camp following his recent appointment as an Operations Officer with Judo WA. Cody assisted across multiple areas throughout the weekend, supporting the smooth running of the program and gaining valuable experience in event delivery at a state level.

Further strengthening the coaching team was Olivia Knights, who assisted with coaching during the camp, working closely with athletes on the tatami and helping foster a positive, inclusive training environment.

The weekend was also supported behind the scenes by Daniel Stevens and Chantel Stevens, parents of Nate Stevens, who generously volunteered their time to assist with the setup and packdown of the camp. Their commitment included travelling to and from Hillarys, highlighting the vital role that parents and volunteers play in making programs like the Futures Camp possible.

SouthWest Judo Academy congratulates James, Kayla, and Nate on their selection and participation, and extends sincere thanks to all coaches, officials, volunteers, and families who contributed to another successful WA Futures Camp. Opportunities such as this are instrumental in developing not only better judoka, but confident, resilient young people within our judo community.
