Refereeing Pathway

Step into the Heart of Judo Competitions

Refereeing is an essential part of judo, ensuring fairness, respect, and the smooth running of competitions at every level. Whether you’re looking to get involved at your local club or aspire to officiate on the world stage, the SouthWest Judo Academy Refereeing Pathway provides the training, support, and opportunities to help you succeed.

Getting Started: The Green Shirt Beginner Referee Program

The Green Shirt Beginner Referee Program is your first step into refereeing. This program is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of refereeing, providing hands-on experience in a supportive environment.

As a Green Shirt Referee, you’ll:

  • Gain confidence officiating matches.
  • Learn the rules and regulations of judo.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced referees.

Once you complete the Green Shirt Program, you’ll be ready to work toward formal accreditation through the State C, B, and A licences.
➡️ Learn more about the Green Shirt Program here.

Refereeing Pathway: From Club to International Events

As you progress through the refereeing pathway, opportunities expand to officiate at various levels:

  • Club Level: Gain experience in local competitions.
  • State Level: Take part in events across Western Australia.
  • Interstate and National Events: Referee at the Judo Australia National Championships and other prestigious competitions.
  • International Opportunities: Achieve world-class accreditation and officiate at international tournaments, representing Australia globally.
